Dustin and Nikki started playing music together in 2008, with the primary focus being their faith communities. Over the years, they played in several different groups and bands, mostly covering other artists. In 2019, Dustin and Nikki decided to shift their focus to writing and recording original music and playing live gigs. This was truly born out of a desire to continue to play together and to share some their experiences with the harder things in life. This is when they formed Slashes & Strings. Mixing folk/rocks sounds with heavy harmonies, Slashes & Strings explore ideas of doubt in faith and life, sadness, anxiety, depression, etc…in hopes that other people can connect and feel less alone in their experiences. Slashes & Strings released their debut EP in April of 2021 called Wanderer EP.

Years later, I would pick up the guitar and start playing in various church groups. Having played for almost 15 years, I still consider myself ‘incredibly mediocre’, but that’s the beauty of music.
